The Latest Word on Male Infertility
Infertility in Men is not commonly known to be a big part of
the equation when it comes to causes of infertility, however, it accounts for
about 1/3 of the actual reasons why women don't become pregnant. Another third
is related to women's issues and the last third remains somewhat of a mystery.
Each bit of research reduces the unknown and increases the chance of
eliminating infertility. And so it is with the most recent research into male
infertility.
Most discoveries in pharmaceuticals are the direct result of
a planned strategy for a particular ailment, disease, genetic malfunction or
whatever. There are sometimes added benefits that are totally unpredictable and
yet somehow manage to work in favour of another problem within the complex
human body. Best Urologist in Jaipur
NAC (n-acetyl cysteine) is a variant of L-cysteine, an amino
acid that is most commonly used to counteract an overdose of acetaminophen, a
pain reliever like Tylenol. But there are other uses for NAC such as prevention
of some pulmonary disorders, kidney damage due to imaging, reduction of the
effects of influenza and treatment of pulmonary fibrosis as well as infertility
treatment in women due to certain types of polycystic ovary syndrome among
other types of illnesses and diseases.
NAC is actually an antioxidant that appears to be helping
with that 1/3 unknown factor in infertility. In a recent study that provided
120 men with infertility of unknown origin were given NAC for a period of three
months, after which they were again tested. The researchers discovered that
there was increased sperm motility, viscosity and volume in 60 of the men -
hurray for the researcher! Now it gets even better. When they added the trace
mineral - just a smidgen (200 mcg) of selenium the volunteers showed hormonal
changes that were positive, in addition to the improved parameters of the
semen.
So they naturally concluded that the "supplemental
selenium and N-acetyl-cysteine improve semen quality." They also advocated
their use for male infertility. Urologist in Jaipur
